PHOTOJOURNALISM
The summer before my senior year, I made an investment: a used Canon EOS 7D. The camera came with a 55-250 mm lens, and my Nana gave me an 18-55. I primarily got the camera for my job at The Saline Courier, as I am responsible for taking pictures for most of the stories I turn in, though my interest in photography motivated me to try shooting for Prospective, where I discovered an even greater interest in videography.
Spanish II Class Brings Story to Life | Dec. 20, Prospective
Sitting at Spanish 2 teacher Kathryn Maus’s desk, junior Raquel Thompson reads over the script for her video. She volunteered to narrate the story, “El jabón Sexy Man.” “[The video] is unlike anything I’ve ever done in a foreign language class,” Thompson said. “[Maus] really went all in to it. She made sure we knew our lines, did a green screen and had a tripod for a camera. It makes it more fun and it makes you more engaged.”
Flipping through the script, freshman Jacob Atherley prepares to act in the first scene. He played the main character, Steven. “I’ve always liked playing a nice part,” Atherley said. “I thought it would be fun.”
With his hands in his pockets, freshman Jacob Atherley stands in front of the camera between scenes. He is the only freshman in a class of all upperclassmen. “It’s a little weird [being the only freshman], but I know I have a few friends in there.”
